Ashbury Satcom - Iridium Short Burst Data

Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD) is a proprietary network protocol that allows for small bursts of data to be transferred efficiently and cost-effectively over the Iridium network. This is ideal for applications that require frequent small transactions, such a vehicle tracking, equipment and process monitoring, banking etc.

Short Burst Data is essentially billed for by the amount of data sent. Messages are sent from the subscriber’s computer in email or IP format to the Iridium SBD messaging centre from where it is forwarded to device in the field. The device is configured to send messages back to an email or IP address of the subscriber's choice, from where the data can be further processed.

Much of the specialised Iridium hardware sold by Ashbury SatCom supports SBD.
